State jurors and witnesses certificates, 1839-1885.

The series consists of state jurors and state witnesses certificates which were submitted to the Comptroller's Office from 1830 to 1885. The certificates document the state's indebtedness to individuals summoned to the circuit court as jurors or witnesses on behalf of the state. The information provided includes the name of the county; the year and term of the circuit court; the name of the individual serving as a juror or state witness; the amount which the state was indebted; and the actual days served. The certificates are signed by the county sheriff and the clerk of the court and endorsed by the juror or witness. Included in the series are the "Report of Jurors" and the "Report of Witnesses" which were compiled by the clerk of court. The reports list in ledger form the names of jurors and witnesses, the total number of days of court attendance, and the number of miles travelled.
